About me

Hi, I am Rebecca Goeckeritz. Most people call me Becca.

I vividly remember the magical experience of getting my first violin. Just as Harry Potter's wand chose him, the violin chose me.

My mother wanted all of her children to play a musical instrument, specifically the piano. When I was 15 months old I was paralyzed from the waist down due to an auto pedestrian accident. Though my wheelchair prevented me from learning to play the piano, my mother was undeterred from her desire for me to have an instrument I could not only play, but play well. My mother observed that violinists in symphony orchestras sit while they play and she decided to have me learn to play the violin. She contacted a Suzuki Violin Teacher in our community and at the age of 6, my journey as a violinist began.

In my early teens, I took advantage of opportunities to perform with chamber ensembles and youth symphony orchestras throughout the Salt Lake Valley. I loved performing and at the age of 16 knew that I wanted to be a professional musician. As I considered the opportunities before me, I reflected on the lasting impression my teachers had on me. I became excited at the idea that all that had been taught to me, I could pass on to others. Teaching became my calling.

I graduated with my bachelors degree in Violin Performance, became a certified and registered Suzuki Violin Teacher and have been teaching for over 20 years. I remain active in my own study, both with my instrument and through continued teacher training. My day is made when I see the progress my students make because of their practice and diligence. I am active in the music communities from Ogden to Salt Lake City. I regularly perform with Chamber Orchestra Ogden, Next Ensemble, and The Orchestra at Temple Square which is the companion orchestra to the Tabernacle Choir.
